Best Ladakh Road Trip Itinerary for 12 days

Are you planning a Ladakh road trip and confused about what day-by-day itinerary you can follow to make the best Ladakh trip of your life? Or are you looking for a 12 Days Leh Ladakh Trip by Road itinerary?

 

In this blog post, We will share with you a detailed day-by-day Ladakh trip itinerary that you can follow without thinking twice, to plan your next Ladakh trip in 2023 and make it memorable. This most common itinerary for Ladakh road trip in 12-14 days is followed by thousands of travelers including myself over a decade. By following this Ladakh by road itinerary covered in my video, you will cover all the Ladakh sightseeing places including Srinagar – Leh, Manali – Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, and Tso Moriri in 12-14 days following this detailed travel plan for Leh Ladakh road trip.

Let’s not waste the time and get straight to the point:

Day 1: We will Start our first day by Flight from your city to Srinagar after arrival at Srinagar international airport explore Dal lake, Nishat B hag, Shalimar and other local Sightseeing’s in Srinagar and wander a bit in the local markets in Srinagar, Eat some tasty food – Kashmiri Cuisine like Wazwan for Non Vegetarians  and Dum Aloo and other dishes for vegetarians 
Over Night Stay in Hotel / Houseboat in Srinagar

Day 2: Srinagar – Sonamarg – Zojila – Kargil

Start easrly Srinagar and drive towrds Sonamarg, it will take around 3 hours to reacxh sonamarg. The journey between Srinagar – Sonamarg is very beautiful, you can spend an hour and then from there is Zojila Pass,  a very adventurous and beautiful pass you will get goosebumps when ascending towards Zojila pass, just after 2 kms is Zero point known as the border of two UTs where the J&K state land ends and you will enter the Ladakh UT, its also famous among tourists for Snow related activities like Snow bikes etc. From there move towards Drass (Kargil War Memorial)  Don’t miss this at all, you will get a patriotic feeling up there, then have evening tea in the Army canteen and till evening or by night you will reach Kargil to spend overnight there.

Day 3: Kargil – Lamayuru – Leh:
Day 3 will start from Kargil towards Leh and by night we will reach Leh. You will find plenty beautiful landscapes of Ladakh which are also called the barren landscapes of Ladakh will begin appear today, so when you start from Kargil after 30 KM’s you will reach a place called Mulbek or Mulbek Statue, where yo can stop for a while and there is one Buddha’s statue carved into a mountain. You can spend some time up there and see it. And then when you will resume journey from Mulbekh and then the two passes will come known as (FOTULA Pass and NAMKILA Pass) in which the FOTULA pass is the heighest pass on Srinagar – Leh Highway at an altitude of 14132, and after you cross those two passes you will reach the Lamayuru also famous as Moon Land. The soil formation of the mountains is like you will feel you’re on Moon itself. You can also visit the Lamayuru Monastery and now when you start from Lamayuru and move towards Leh, you will see many beautiful locations and sightseeing places. The most famous sightseeing in Leh is Sham valley which lies in between Leh and Lamayuru.

Now what comes in these major sightseeing / attractions?
We will say you can cover confluence which is Zanskar and Indus River confluence also know as Snagam River.
Then moving forward to Magnetic Hills and Pather Shaib Gurduwara will come, these both places are on the road itself. reach Leh while visiting both of these places.

As there are so many places to see between Kargil to Leh, so we will highly recommend that you leave Kargil early in the morning so that you can cover all these places before reaching Leh. 
So that’s how on the 3rd day you will reach Leh, and you must be getting a pleasant feeling inside.

And then you can go to Leh main market / Mall Road and spend some time and then have rest in your Hotel and Overnight stay in Leh Hotel.

Day 4: LEH 

On 4th day you will rest and acclimatize to high altitude, already we are acclimatized to a bit as we have came by road but to be just 100% sure we will rest in Leh and do the local sightseeing in Leh that has Sankar Gompa, Leh Palace, Hall of Fame in evening you can visit to Shanti Stupa, watch the sun set up there, you will get a beautiful view of Leh city in the evening and then again come down to Changspa road where you will find many good restaurants where you can eat good food and then go back to Hotel for Rest.

Before Moving forward, there is important aspect and that is Inner Line Permit in Ladakh.

Now in Ladakh, Indian domestic tourists do not need any permits anymore in Ladakh from this year – 2023, the Ladakh Inner Line permit for Domestic / Indian Tourists have been scrapped. All you have to do is pay the environment fees. And the Fee structure is as shown below

After payment you will get receipt you can carry in your phone or carry a hardcopy taking its printout, when you will be on the sightseeing in Ladakh you will pass through different check posts where this recipt can be checked randomly 

Now, coming back to the itinerary, on Day 6, the Sightseeing of Ladakh or will begin to explore them.

Day 6: Leh – Khardun La Pass –  Diskit – Nubra Valley.

Today we will begin from Leh and go to Nubra Valley while going over the Khardun La Pass (World Highest Motorable Road), stop there  for 10-15 mins on high altitude, and take some pictures and may be drink soup in the canteen up there. And then descend towards Nubra Valley from there.

Now Nubra valley has two places, first is Hunder and the second is Diskit, So first Diskit will come where what you can do is, there is a monastery which you can visit, Diskit’s  famous monastery. And there on the terrace of the monastery there is a very huge statue,  a 106 feet tall Buddha statue which you can see. The view of Nubra valley from the terrace is absolutly beautiful.  Then simmilarly, Hunder is about 8 Kms ahead of Diskit where you will find the sand dunes and double-humped camels in Hunder on which you can do a camel safari.
