Drass has been developed as a tourist destination since 1999, following the Kargil War. This new facet of the local economy initially took the form of visitors specially arriving to see the war zone. ZojiLa pass is a very important pass connecting Srinagar Valley with the Suru and Drass Valley as well as the Indus Region. This notorious dirt trail offers a spectacular view of the valley and gives a daunting trail to ride on with hairpin bends making it even more daunting. Baltal valley is no doubt one of the best places to visit in Kashmir. Around 100 kms from Srinagar. It takes around 2- 2.5 hrs by car from Srinagar. It is a beautiful drive along river Sindh on Srinagar Leh highway. The valey itself is mesmerising. Beautiful waterfalls, views of Glaciers and dnow covered mountains and best of all white gushing waters of river Sindh. This place is only open for 6 months from March April to September. Rest of the time its all covered in snow. Best time to visit in early months from April to June if you want to enjoy snow. After that also though snow melts and is only in the higher reaches still the place is mesmerising.
